Don’t be put off by the religiosity that pops up mostly in the first half. This book includes mystery and intrigue. The conclusion was a bit overly idealistic and syrupy. It is none-the-less, a good read written in the manner of this great writer.Product details

You will love this book tells about the poor becoming rich and forgetting about the poor . But it will turn around and they will realize they still have compassion .
I loved reading this book. It is a great moral story and holds your attention completely. I advise reading it and enjoy it.

i read 9 chapters it was just too hard to read, like pulling teeth that were not loose.
One of my favorite Harold Bell Wright stories. Interesting portrayal of history by relating it to families who suffered from the excesses of the early Unionizing movement.
Helen of the Old HouseI have always loved Harold Bell Wright's books. Because of the time in which he wrote, one expects a much weightier writing style. However, Mr. Wright, like E.P. Roe, had a certain writing genius that allowed him to use his subject matter to entertain his audience while connecting fiction and fact and to use his writing as a platform for subtle moral statements. In most of his other books, I have found this style of writing thoroughly enjoyable, and I have relished working my way through the convoluted streams of thought. But, I could not find the interest or enthusiasm in Helen of the Old House that I usually have when I read Mr. Wright's book. Perhaps it was my lack of interest or knowledge of the subject, but I really did not enjoy this book. I am sure the fault was mine; Mr. Harold Bell Wright was an outstanding author!
