From the New York Times Bestselling author of Stepbrother Dearest, comes a new sexy STANDALONE novel.

Nina Kennedy was alive…but not living…until she met him.

Planes, trains, heights…you name it, Nina was afraid of it and led a sheltered life ruled by irrational fears and phobias. When she moves to Brooklyn for nursing school, that life is turned upside down, as she develops an intense but unwanted attraction to her gorgeous roommate, who’s pierced, tattooed and just happens to be the smartest person she’s ever met.

Behind Jake Green’s rough exterior and devilish smile, lies a heart of gold. He makes it his mission to change Nina’s outlook on life. When he agrees to tutor her, they forge a bet and the stakes are high as Jake forces Nina to face her demons. He just wasn’t expecting to fall hard for her in the process.

What Nina doesn’t realize, is that Jake has been living his own private hell. Once he drops a bombshell, will their love survive it?

A STANDALONE novel.

I really got into this book and would love to have given it 4.5 stars. but I do NOT like cheating in my books, there was no warning in the summary -- and I'm not even talking about Jake with Nina. I was sympathetic to Jake's situation with Ivy, he acts like a genuinely good guy, so when Jake and Nina fall in love, I was cheering for them. Understandably Nina is having a hard time dealing with all of the baggage that Jake comes with. She comes back to the apartment to find Jake drunk with Lexi the bartender putting on her clothes as she leaves, so of course Nina leaves Jake. This is where Penelope Ward completely lost me -- Jake was so "distraught" over Nina leaving that he grabs Desiree, the waitress he's slept with a few times before, brings her to his apartment, clothes are off & he has her nipple in his mouth. He had been going on and on about how Nina is his true love, he loves her so much, but right there, the author completely lost me, he was with 2 other women in a matter of days so I lost all interest I had in this story and all sympathy I had for Jake's character -- I was DONE. I begrudgingly finished the book. At that point, Jake is loyal to Ivy but otherwise he's just a big selfish cheating prick who obviously is not loyal to Nina at all. At that point, Nina should save her remaining self-respect, leave him and move on, but she doesn't, so I lost all respect for her as well. I give this book 3 stars just because it started out good, had potential until the cheating began.

Jake Undone edition by Penelope Ward Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The story line is good. I always equate a good book based on the level of its angst! This book has it. I just can’t get past the point where Jake almost had sex with Des despite claiming that his heart still belong to Nina. What stopped him was the piece of charm that he saw before putting a condom on. If he did not see that, he probably had sex with Des because that was his intention. So Jake is still legally married to Ivy, in love with Nina and about to have sex with Des. Seriously, there is something wrong in that equation no mater how you slice and dice it. I also think that he still loves his wife . His devotion to his wife was unreal. Every weekend he would travel to Boston to visit her and come back to NY to work for 5 or 7 years. He said he doesn’t love his wife anymore . But the fact that he has been traveling every weekend to Boston to see his wife just claims that he still loves her. It may not be sexual or physical but there is great level of commitment there. I know he also loves Nina and that is a sexual love , a connection that he cannot get from his wife . So I think he is not 100% faithful to his wife. I will read Jake Understood just to get more of the story. Overall the intensity was there so I give it 3 Stars.
If only I had listened to the reviews! They were so right or at least the honest ones were. I hopefully thought since I had read a few other books by this author and enjoyed them that perhaps the reviews that said half way through the book the author suddenly decides to go a different direction and screw it all up for the reader by adding in all this unneeded drama and angst were wrong. They weren’t. Read all the
1 to 3 star reviews. They are from real readers not the fake kind that boost ratings. The book title should have been Jake Run All the women in your Life are Draining the Very Life Out Of You. The first half of this book was so well written and really smooth and captivating until Jake and whatever her name was had "the talk". What was Penelope Ward thinking? I was so hooked. Then the book went off the rails and became depressing and the characters so immature and indecisive. Was this a YA book? They just kept rehashing and rehashing the same problems over and over. I HATE when authors do that. The ending of the book was not a happy ending. It was just an ending. It was supposed to be happy but I hated her by then. I felt so sorry for Jake that he had all that to deal with after all he had been through. Penelope listen up, no one wants to sit next to a whiney indecisive person at the doctor's office or on the plane etc so . . they really don't want to read about them during their few minutes of escapism at the end of the day. Did you not think when you were writing this that Jake had reaching his saturation point of cray cray only to get more and more of it? I reached mine. I wanted more for Jake than this. Thank you for the first half of the book. The second half should be "undone".
