The Shifter Dimension is the third of JM Johnson's series, which I've read out of order). Still, this installment was well written with rapid fire action that had me eagerly reading. I feel this entire series consists of stand alone books, because the author fills in readers with adequate background. Some may feel the history is scant, but I thought it was just enough to allow me to catch on, without feeling as though too many chapters were over filled with details I already knew.

Characters are well developed, especially Lock and Jimmy, but it is Johnson's uber creative concepts that make this a sensational read. I'm not big on political reads, but nowadays with citizens learning not to trust their countries government, this book is pertinent.
I remain impressed that Johnson has fleshed out a variety of characters, placing as much light on secondary ones as the main lead, Lock. If characters do not have flaws, they simply don't seem real, and trust me, the visualizations bring many of these characters alive in your mind, even those you disdain.

Lots of twists and turns, terrorist activity, and military action make this action filled third book a page turner, and for me I was left contemplating the behavior of people and speculating what I might do with the freedom provided by the Starbirth drug.

The Shifter Dimension, the second book in The Starbirth Series by J.M. Johnson is a fast-paced science fiction thriller that kept me guessing at every turn. Set against the backdrop of war and terrorist threats, the danger is complicated by the presence of villains with enhanced abilities. Fortunately, Lock Harford uses his skills as a Shifter to try to keep the world safe. This second book picked up where the first one left off, and the ending definitely made me eager to read the next installment. The Shifter Dimension is an excellent sci-fi thriller and is highly recommended. Five enthusiastic stars!
I picked up this book first as it was released for free on kindle. Part of the way in, I did feel I needed to find out more about the characters as there seemed to be a lot of back story I was missing. That's probably just my linear thinking. It might not bother everyone. However, as the third book in the series, it makes the wait worth the reading.

The level of political and intelligence machinations that are going on make one wonder just how much we trust our own governments. Our main character has grown considerably since his early work with the effects from the Starbirth drug. While Lock has definite advantages over others with the same skills, he is sorely tested in this episode. He realizes a lot about determination and teamwork during his trials.

Yet, this isn't a one character story. There are several other characters in the book that the author spends a good deal of time putting flesh upon. In addition, we have plenty of military and terrorist action to keep us all busy and awake at night. It makes you wonder just how far some folks would go if they had the kind of freedom that the Starbirth drug provides. Yet, despite the advantages of the drug, our characters aren't 'supermen' (or superwomen) by any means. They are people with flaws and cracks in their armour. The reader isn't completely sure how things are going to turn out.

Lots of twists and turns to keep you busy and no shortage of action. It took a while to read through the first two and then come back, but it was worth the wait. Some might need to read them in order, but in either case, they're worth reading.
This book was a step outside my usual comfort zone of reading as I’ve not read many works of this nature. J.M.Johnson’s The Shifter Dimension 3 is categorized as Science Fiction> Genetic Engineering, Fantasy > Paranormal & Urban. It is all those and was a great introduction into that detailed realm.

I began this series with book three and I was able to follow the story. I will be picking up and reading books 1 and 2. It’s an interesting story.
Just finished book 4 and cant wait for the next one... Since I don't write reviews very often I'll try and keep it simple...

Great story line - read all four books back to back so was able to really grasp the characters development - only down side is the start of every new chapter would get a bit wordy in setting the scene - other than that its a great fast read...
I judge a book on its ability to hold my attention and keep me hooked until the very end. The Shifter Dimension did this for me. I had never read this type of book before so at first I found the world of Shifters intriguing and as I read on I became absorbed in the credible alternate world Jackie Johnson had created. Lock Harford, is forced back onto active duty to protect his family. Working with the Secret Service and British Special Forces he sets out to track down terrorists who have a new deadly weapon. As Lock utilizes his special talents what follows is a different type of pacy thriller with lots of twists and turns as the mystery/adventure unfolds. The read is made all the more satisfying with the addition of a number of well rounded characters, goodies and baddies. An enjoyable read and highly recommended.
One of the best bargains I have read in a long time. Very well written and lightning fast storyline. I loved the concept of being able to listen to the cells in your body and make them respond to you. It's not often I find plots with such original concepts. I also loved.how timely the theater of battle was; the Middle East being steeped in color and intrigue ala Homeland.

Excellent projection of tension. Takes great skill to make a reader get the same headache the character gets. The author is a women BTW. Pretty amazing considering the expert level of tech speak mixed with bio science.
